I replaced a Dunkirk XEB-3 (20 yrs. old) with the Dunkirk boiler above. The new one is all most identical to the old one, that is the pipes were located same as the old, so gas and water lines were easily plumbed. The old electrical wires could be used although lengthened to connect to the digital controls. The circulators location has changed, it's still provided with its wiring provided. Venting is the same as the old one. I was happy to get another Dunkirk that installed easily.

Upon opening the package, I noticed a loose piece of sheet metal inside on the floor of the heat chamber. Upon investigation, this piece belonged vertically placed to possibly stabilize each of the heaters, by fastening with only one sheet metal screw to the top. I was able to get it in place and fasten the screw from the top outside with a larger screw, since the design one was stripped. Some details about the unit not in the description - comes with about 10' power cord/plug for the motor, 1" fittings are standard copper pipe sweat fittings, top and bottom frame just fits finished 2x4. Makes it easy to make a quick wood mounting frame. Unit radiates about 45K BTU with 167 degree water circulated into it at 2.1 gpm (return temp is 124 degrees). Fan is fairly low noise. Louvers a little light weight, have unit on the floor with louvers taped open.

I installed this unit about a month ago to heat/cool our 3rd floor loft (finished attic) and it has been working flawlessly so far. It is energy efficient and was straightforward to install using the instructions provided and the appropriate tools (torque wrench, vacuum pump in addition to standard tools). I did purchase a genuine Mitsubishi lineset (MLS143812T-15) elsewhere and found that the torque value of 25-30 ft-lb specified for the 3/8" flare connection was too much and it... more
